Virginia Evans: Music
Simple Girl
(Virginia Evans)
I wish I had a poem that I could write
To explain the calm I feel
When you kiss my forehead
‘Fore you turn out the light
I wish I had a photo I could give
To show the joy that fills me
When you thank me for the little things
Like helping with your tie
But I’m a simple girl:
With common gifts and faithful heart
I’ll stand with you and love you
That will be my art
I’m a simple girl
You knew that from the very start
I’m steady as the sunrise
And the moonlight after dark
When we’ve been together many years
I know I’ll be as happy then
To walk that mossy ridge trail
With your hand in mine
Though I could have lived another life
There’s no man I could love more
Nothing that could give more joy
Than sharing day and night.
Cause I’m a simple girl
With common gifts and faithful heart
I’ll stand with you and love you
That will be my art
I’m a simple girl
You knew that from the very start
I’m steady as the sunrise
And the moonlight after dark
